Upon his marriage to Miss Waring in 1892, Harris moved to a luxurious apartment in New York City and spent the winters in Florida. His death in 1906 greatly disappointed those who were convinced of his immortality, and the body was cremated without more ado. His only known memorial is Thomas Lake Harris Drive in Fountain Grove, Santa Rosa.50 But the Santa Rosa vineyard continued. Even through Prohibition, it sold grape juice and stockpiled its wares under the direction of Nagasawa, Harris’s right-hand man in viniculture and eventually the sole owner of the property.51 Before he died, Nagasawa donated 117 acres to the city of Santa Rosa for the Sonoma County Airport—now named not for Thomas L. Harris, but for the creator of the comic strip Peanuts, Charles M. Schulz.
