Chapter Fifteen

It had been what seemed like hours since she’d heard his voice. His tone sunk deep into her soul and like water in sinking into dry soil, it nurtured her. Although she still believed he had betrayed her, the soothing sound of his voice commanded her to hold onto a small glimmer of hope, that he would be to her what he said he would be.

Dream braced herself on the elderly patient’s shower chair and slowly pulled herself from off the shower floor. The pain in her abdomen was becoming intense so Dream made it over to the sink, barely turned on the faucet and took a pill followed by a handful of water.

She was careful to remain quiet because she had no clue of who was still out in the hallway looking for her. While she no longer heard voices, didn’t mean that they were all gone. She peeked out the bathroom and looked over to the window. The sun was beginning to set.

Dream looked back towards the door, that the door was still closed and exited the bathroom. She glanced at the clock. It was six forty-seven p.m. Dream had been in and out of this hospital enough times over the years to know their system like clockwork. So she knew that shift change was underway.

She was sure the nurse’s would have informed the new shift of what had transpired but she had a much better chance at getting away on the new shift. She decided to wait a little longer before leaving the room. She wanted the best chance at escaping but she also needed a little time to let her medication kick in.

Dream slipped back into the bathroom and re-assumed the position in the shower. The time gave her more opportunity to plot her next move. She had already put her priority list together.

Out of all the people she felt was left out there that owed her, Kam was her highest priority. Before she would turn herself in, Dream vowed she would make Kam lead her too. Where she had taken Dream’s baby girl.

Once she had her baby back, Dream would ask Garvonni to find her a good home. One that he could keep an eye on her child. Then if her ride was over, she could face it a lot better.

She hadn’t seen Kam since her overdose but she knew Kam wouldn’t be hard to find. Dream had moved her operation to a house on the corner of St. Louis Avenue and Marcus.

Dream knew she wouldn’t face an issue getting to Kam, especially since Big Ren was in jail on a murder charge. Kam was vulnerable without him. The only thing Dream lacked was a gun. Hers was left in her purse at Pieces’ house. She was sure the police had confiscated it by now. Dream smiled as she once again, thought back to Pieces, falling lifeless in the hallway.

The thought of him jogged her memory of a storage bin Pieces kept down in the floor of his hallway closet.
