Chapter Six
âShouldnât he pick you up if youâre going on a date?â Seamus asked.
Levi shrugged. âProbably. He wanted to, but I said no.â
âWhy?â
âBecause I donât want to make things easy for him.â
Seamus laughed, and it was good to hear that sound. Levi had made sure to see Seamus as many times as he could since theyâd gone on that first date. They were sitting on a bench in the park close to the coffee shop they always met at since the day was so nice, sipping on their coffee. Levi had a date with Dimitri later that day, and heâd told Dimitri heâd drive to the steakhouse where Dimitri had made a reservation. It would have made more sense for Dimitri to pick him up, but Levi didnât want him to.
Like heâd told Seamus, Levi didnât want to make things easy for Dimitri. He needed a way to get out of their date fast if things went as bad as their previous date had, and calling Alexis to come pick him up wouldnât cut it. He also couldnât help but be slightly wary about climbing into a car that belonged to Dimitri, even though it was brand new. Dimitri had said the mechanic heâd brought his totaled car to had said someone had cut the brakes, or something like thatâLevi didnât understand a thing about how cars worked.
What if someone did it to Dimitriâs new car while they were eating dinner? What if it crashed on the way to cete territory? Dimitri still didnât know why someone had tried to kill him, so Levi wanted to make sure he didnât get caught in whatever it was.
âYou just want to be able to go home as fast as you can in case heâs as much of an asshole as he was last time,â Seamus teased.
Levi hadnât told him about someone trying to kill Dimitri, and he wasnât going to. Seamus already had plenty of things on his mind, and Levi wasnât going to add more to it. âExactly. I mean, not that it was satisfying to stomp out of the restaurant last time, especially with how nice the place was. You should have seen some of the scandalized looks I got. But having to pace the sidewalk and kick the ass of a man who thought I was easy prey sucked.â
âThat, and you canât wait to see the expression on Dimitriâs face when you drive away.â
âI was kinda hoping I wouldnât have to, to be honest.â
Seamus tucked his leg under himself and turned on the bench so he could face Levi. âYou think he really changed?â
âI hope so.â
âBecause Iâm the only other alternative.â
âThatâs not why, and you know it. I like you a lot more than I like him.â
âYet heâs the one you want to marry.â
âNo offense, but while I love our friendship, I canât see us married.â
Seamus shrugged. âNo offense taken. I canât say I feel anything different about the situation. You know Iâm in this because my uncle wants me to.
