I need to lighten up, Paul thinks. “You’re too introspective,” Gretchen tells him. “Thinking too hard. Got to cut that out,” she says, and she laughs and grabs his arm. She is surprisingly strong. Maybe stronger than him. “Glad you came by, Paul,” she says. “Always glad to see you, my friend.”

Riverfront, she said. You could be a millionaire. And what good would that do me?

“Maybe you should have someone here to help out once in a while,” he told Marg shortly after the realtor came by. And the way Marg glared at him, coring him out. Just who in the hell do you think you are?
