"Hey, Izzie—are you doing okay?"

Cooper's eyeing me in concern, and I wonder if he ever gets tired of looking out for everyone. I get that it's his role on the team, but that seems to extend towards me, and it's something I appreciate. "Yeah, why do you ask?" I question brightly, though I can hear the fakeness of my own voice as I fill a beer from the tap.

"You look tense," Cooper says, empathy deep in his eyes. Behind him, the bar is lively as usual, music blaring through the speakers. A couple of people are by the electronic jukebox, waiting to put in their song selection. At the same time, a group plays pool off on the side. Cooper hesitates before saying, "And. . ."

I pause, raising an eyebrow, heartbeat skipping. "And what?"

Cooper's jaw clenches momentarily. "And Noah may have said something."

What the fuck? "What did he say?"

The harshness in my tone can't be helped, still feeling the burn from the other night when Noah ignored my phone call. Cooper leans back slightly, blinking at my tone. "Just that you two were kind of seeing each other, kind of not? And you two got into some kind of, uh, argument the other day."

My throat works, my grip tightening on the tap. "Yeah? What else did he tell you?" I ask, trying to wage his reaction. If Noah spilled a secret that wasn't his to spill, I swear I'll strangle him.

But Cooper looks none the wiser. "No, no. That's all he said. He looked upset. You look upset. I'm worried about you guys. Sorry if I'm crossing a line."

His sincerity is endearing. "You don't have to be, Cooper. Noah and I will figure it out. He just. . ." I pause, throat working as I glance around before sighing. I should probably keep my mouth shut, but now that Noah knows about Rose, I feel like I can't keep her a secret anymore. I don't want to, either. I love her so much, and am proud to be her mother—and everyone should know that. "He found out I have a kid. A five-year-old girl. Let's just say I took him by surprise."

Cooper gapes at me, eyes wide and jaw hanging. I'd laugh if I wasn't so weary from this fight with Noah. "You have a kid? Holy shit, Isabelle—really?"

"I do," I nod, smiling as I think of my little girl. "She's the best, and Noah—"

"Will get over it," Cooper says firmly, a serious look on his face. "You keeping your daughter a secret is your business, Izzie. You don't have to explain anything to anyone, but if you want to talk it over with Noah, I hope you do. From what I can tell, the guy really likes you, and, shit, I don't think I've seen him this hung up on a woman before. Not like, well..." he trails off.

My throat tightens, half afraid to ask. But I do anyway. "Like what?"

Cooper meets my gaze. "Like you're it for him."

My eyes burn, but I refuse to let the tears fall as Cooper's words hit me right in the chest.
