Charles Albright

When they saw that his mugshot from the most recent arrest matched Brenda White’s description, they contacted the Homicide detectives handling the murder cases.

Charles Albright’s photo was put in a photo lineup with several other mugshots. Both Brenda White and Veronica Rodrigues definitively pointed him out as their attacker. Detectives knew they had their killer.

Charles Albright was adopted just three weeks after his birth by Delle and Fred Albright. Although Delle Albright pampered her son, she was also overbearing, overprotective, and sometimes cruel. When he wouldn’t take a nap, Delle would tie him to his bed. When he had done something wrong, she would lock him in a dark room. Worried that he might contract diseases, she bathed him and changed his clothes several times a day. On some occasions, she dressed him in girl’s clothing and let him play with dolls. The education of her son was very important to Delle. Although Charles went to normal public schools, she homeschooled him as well, and he was bumped two grades ahead in his early school years. During his grade school years, Delle made sure Charles practiced playing piano for thirty minutes every morning before the school bus arrived.

Charles’s mother taught him manners and to be kind, especially when it came to girls. Throughout his life, there was no shortage of people that had extremely good things to say about Charles Albright. He was known to be a perfect gentleman around women, even in his adult years.

When Charles was eleven-years-old, Delle ordered a taxidermy kit for him through the mail. It was a hobby that had interested her in her early years and she wanted to teach it to Charles. He took on his new hobby as an art form, learning how to properly skin birds and small animals, as well as how to remove brains, organs, and, of course, eyeballs.

When Charles’s mother took him to taxidermy shops, he was fascinated by the intricate fake eyeballs. He could stare at them for hours. Delle, however, wouldn’t allow him to buy the eyes. They were far too expensive. Instead, she would sew black buttons onto his projects instead of letting him use the more realistic eyes.

Delle displayed her son’s creative artwork in the cabinets of their home. The birds were stuffed perfectly except for their large, black button eyes.

As Charles grew up, he excelled academically and graduated from high school at fifteen. But he was a prankster. He set fire to his high school chemistry teacher’s dress and was caught stealing the answers to tests while in college. When his grades became less than perfect, he learned to forge his report cards so his mother believed he earned all A’s.

Gradually, through the years, his juvenile pranks got more and more serious. Eventually, he was breaking into stores and stealing things. During his college years, he and several of his classmates were caught during a break-in and he was sentenced to a year in prison.

After prison, he attended Arkansas State Teacher’s College
