In the morning, Maggie kissed Shaun goodbye and admonished him to not do anything dangerous.

“I'll text you tonight from the cottage so you know I'm okay,” he said.

“Thank you. By the way, Sinthia and I will be putting together a little something to protect you from the ghosts,” Maggie said.

Shaun's eyes lit up, and he grinned. “When?”

“This afternoon.”

“Damn, I would have loved to watch,” Shaun said, and Maggie smiled at his inquisitive nature.

“I'll tell you all about it,” Maggie said.

Shaun grinned in response, “Protected by Witches. Cool.”

“Witch,” Maggie said. “I'm just a dabbler.”

“You know what makes a person a Witch is hotly debated in the metaphysical community. Some believe one is born a witch through familial lineage or past life experience. While others insist that a person can only be initiated to be a Witch by someone who has previously received training and initiation themselves. Still, others feel that none of that is necessary.”

“Well, as far as I know, none of that applies to me, so there will only be one Witch working on your talisman,” Maggie said.

“Oh, it's going to be a talisman? What type?”

Maggie laughed, pulled Shaun's coat off the coat rack, and held it out. “Enough. We both have to get going.”

Shaun took the coat from Maggie but made no move to put it on. Instead, he watched Maggie's face as questions raced through his agile mind. “Okay, just tell me what type of talisman you're creating.”

“Sinthia said it was a bag with herbs and stones,” Maggie said as she took Shaun's coat back and held it out, indicating that he should put it on. Shaun slid into his coat and then turned to curl his arms around Maggie in a hug.

“Well, as far as I am concerned, you are a beautiful and powerful Witch who has bewitched my heart,” Shaun said, and Maggie groaned.

“You are such a goof.”

“But I'm your goof,” Shaun said with a silly grin.

“You are,” Maggie said with one last kiss. Then she grabbed Shaun's hand and led him out the door, locking it behind them.

“Stay safe,” Maggie said sternly.

“I will,” Shaun promised.
