“To me, that’s a nice jingle, but not poetry,” said Hughes. “In poetry I want magic. I want glamour. I want music, mystery. I don’t care even if it means nothing. The best poet to my mind is Shelley.”

“Soap bubbles,” said Jameson.

“I like something like this,” Hughes went on:

“‘My soul is an enchanted boat,

Which like a sleeping swan doth float

Upon the silver waves of thy sweet singing.”
