Willa ran from the room and scrambled up the floating staircase to her room. Her door slammed.

Kina hurried up after her.

Katie felt her knees go weak. “Jon, do something!”

“You bet I’ll do something,” he assured her. Anger darkened his face. “I’m heading over to the Coopers right now. Heads are going to roll.”

“Wait!” Aiden cautioned, in the commotion that followed. “That might not be such a great idea. In my line of work, I see these kinds of incidents often. Direct confrontation can lead to ugly places. The best thing to do is call law enforcement. Let them deal with this.”

“Yes,” Elta said. “Let’s everyone take a minute and calm down.”

Ori moaned. He held up his own phone. “There’s a second photograph. This one is of Kina.”

“What?” Halia hesitated, as if afraid to confirm what he said was true. Finally, she reached for his phone and took a look for herself. “Oh, no!” she cried, her voice choked with emotion. She reluctantly handed the phone back before directing her attention back to Jon and Katie. “This is awful. What kind of person would do such a thing?” She shook her head in disbelief. “What do we do? How do we get these down?”

Shane handed off Carson into Aimee’s arms. “Well, I know this. Once something is on social media, there’s really no way to truly remove it. I mean an image can be deleted, but that doesn’t keep others from saving the image…or from posting and sharing. These things can take on a life of their own.”

Alani threw up her dimpled hands in frustration. “Ay, what is the world coming to?”

“Well, I’m going to see to it those images are down!” Jon stormed. “No matter what it takes.”

Katie turned her attention to the second floor, to Willa’s closed bedroom door. “I need to go talk with her,” she said, moving in the direction of the stairs. Shane caught her arm. “Let me, Sis.”

She hesitated. She knew her girl. Willa needed her mother right now. Yet something inside whispered her little brother might be just the one who could give her comfort. He was closer in age and certainly more experienced about cyberbullying. He may even be able to pose a solution of some kind.” She growled inside. “It was unthinkable that a young girl would stoop so low. And to think Amanda Cooper had spent time in her home, eaten at her dinner table. What had happened to the girl she once thought she knew?

“Your brother’s right,” Jon agreed. He turned to his wife. “Let Shane go.” He looked at her, this time his eyes filled with kindness. When it came to the wellbeing of their daughters, all conflict was moved aside.

Katie didn’t argue. Instead, she reached for Jon’s hand.

“In addition to the police, perhaps the school authorities should be notified,” Ava suggested. “I mean, I’m no expert here, but it seems to me this situation will carry down the school hallways come Monday morning.”

“That’s a good idea,” Evan said. His arm went around Christel’s waist and he gave a supportive hug.
