CHAPTER FOURTEEN

KATE

Jack’s hand rested on my lower back as we walked to his front door, spreading heat and excitement through my body. Before we’d left the club, Petra had stilled any doubts about going home with him, assuming that I would share every detail with her the next day, but I was still nervous.

He’d said he lived in a small house on the outskirts of Kittington, but when he pulled up in front of a gate and keyed in a code, it was clear this was no ordinary residence. A staggeringly tall fence surrounded the large brown-brick property, and red lights of cameras blinked at me from several locations.

On the front step, I studied the neatly trimmed shrubs and potted plants draped in the orange glow of the outside lamp as Jack fished out his keys. The property was tranquil, welcoming and charming, yet I couldn’t help but wonder why a house in such a remote location needed so many security features.

Jack lifted my chin, bringing my attention back to him. ‘There’s no need to be worried, ropes. Like the club, it’s only a house, but if you want to go home—’

Before those doubts could fester in my mind, I tugged him to me and pressed my mouth to his, letting my tongue run ever so gently over his bottom lip. His body tensed, and like at the club, he froze for a moment as if processing something. Waiting for him to catch up, I trapped his lower lip and nipped it.

He only allowed me that small moment of control before his hands were around my face, tilting my head to an angle where he took what he wanted. His kiss was passionate and demanding, and a low groan vibrated deep in his throat.

How did he exercise so much control over everything? I tried to regain power by sliding my hands up his chest, but he grabbed my wrists and pinned my hands behind my back. Leaning into me, he teased my lips open before plunging in, swirling his tongue against mine until I was breathless and dazed when he pulled back.

He flashed a smile as he pushed the door open. ‘Ladies first.’

‘That’s not fair, Jack. You can’t just kiss me like that and—’

‘Fair?’ He laughed softly. ‘Do you realise how hard it is for me to go slow?’

‘So don’t.’ I linked my hands around his neck. ‘You’ve flushed the alcohol from my body. Time to keep your promise.’

‘What promise was that?’

The timbre in his voice suggested he knew and would have no problem keeping it. There was no doubt he would when he hoisted me off my feet and kissed me. I wrapped my legs around his waist as he gripped my backside in a possessive manner and manoeuvred us backwards inside. White walls, an archway to a kitchen, and a few pictures on the walls briefly registered as he carried me up the stairs and into a bedroom.

It was nicely decorated with dark hardwood floors, a large sleigh bed, built-in wardrobes, and everything in shades of blue and cream.
