The Shadow represents the force of darkness, “the unexpressed, unrealized, or rejected aspects of something.” Villains, enemies, and antagonists are imbued with the spirit of the Shadow. In some cases, the Shadow wants death and destruction, an urge to destroy rather than create. However, the Shadow can appear as a struggle within the Hero or as an Ally who fundamentally disagrees with what the Hero believes.

Every Hero needs an Ally. This archetype “can serve a variety of necessary functions, such as companion, sparring partner, conscience, or comic relief.” An Ally can be a friend or sidekick of the Hero, becoming a sounding board for the Hero while also running errands or handling other mundane tasks.
