Chapter 10

I had spent the night in the guestroom at Gloria’s house because I did not drive and Cory did not want to leave her alone. I could have taken a cab, but Gloria did not want me to go, so we both took care of her until she fell asleep. Cory and I had dinner together and we had a long talk because it was clear what we had to do. We decided there at the kitchen table that we would have a three-way relationship to ensure that this story had a happy ending for all of us. I could see that this was not something Cory wanted, and neither did I. I would have much preferred to have my own family, but having Cory by my side every day would be the next best thing. I knew I would be in good hands because both Gloria and Cory would do everything to make me happy and I would do the same for them.

I thought about how I would break this news to my family, but I would take a page out of Gloria’s book and not care about what anyone else had to say. It could be a happy and fulfilling life without the drama if we worked together because we all loved each other and did not want to exclude anyone. In order to make that happen, we would have to do this together. It was crazy how spot-on Oakley was, and I had doubted her ability at first, but she was the real deal. She was honest with what she was seeing and not adding things on to make her story more believable. If she did not see something, then she just didn’t see it, and she let us know the limitations of her gift. You either take it or leave it, but she gave what she got.

We were both driving home in silence after Gloria’s visit to her doctor. It was confirmed that she was pregnant and she was sent to see the obstetrician on call. An ultrasound revealed the two heartbeats and we could not even celebrate because we knew what it meant. We did not know the genders, but it was the boy and girl Oakley spoke about. It had started, and if we did not take the lead and change the course of events, we would all lose, including the children.

We arrived at home and Cory held Gloria’s hand and led her into the kitchen for her to have breakfast. She was afraid to eat earlier because she thought she would bring it all up. I sat with her and held her hand while Cory made her some toast.

“You have to try to eat,” I said gently to her.

“It’s going to come back up,” she said.

“That’s just out of fear because of how bad it was last night. Try to eat a piece of toast and have a cup of tea and see what happens,” I said.

“Okay. I’ll try that,” she said and she was really sad.
