“I had so much fun today. Thank you for all of this.” Dru spread her arms out wide then wrapped them around Marina.

“For what?”

“Sharing your family with me. You’re brave, wanting them to meet me. I don’t think I knew what the term ‘a lot of baggage meant’ until I realized what my family did.”

“But none of that matters. You are who I love. That’s what matters.”

Dru kissed Marina tenderly and when Marina deepened the kiss, Dru felt her entire body sink into the warmth and love.

“I’ve got to call Rick and get a family update when I get home. Playing with your niece and nephews made me wonder about mine.”

“Do you think about them often?”

“I try not to. I miss my mom and those little ones. Well, they aren’t little anymore. But I try not to think about it because it just makes me sad and if I did something about it I’d be right back where I’ve worked so hard to get away from. Does that make sense?”

“Of course it makes sense. It’s like a loop of sadness and what-ifs. We have a lot to look forward to, don’t you think?” Marina said, cupping the side of Dru’s face.

“We do.” Dru sighed. “As much as I want to stay with you tonight, I’d better go.”

“I know you have a very early morning. I may have to talk to those people at Shelby’s Staging and Style,” Marina teased. “Hey, are you going to change the name since you’re a partner now?”

“No way. It’s an established, well thought of business and we want to keep it that way. Besides, it's a good name.”

“So is Drucilla Rae,” Marina said, kissing her again deeply.

“I love you,” Dru said softly as she rested her forehead against Marina’s.

“I love you, too,” Marina whispered. “Call me tonight before you go to sleep?”

“I will. See you tomorrow.”

Dru waved to Marina as she drove away. How I love that woman! She thought back to the afternoon. It was such fun playing with the kids in the pool and Marina’s mother was so nice. Dru felt like she and Nadia would become fast friends. There was a bit of a rebellious side to Nadia’s personality.

Dru could tell that Camille looked up to Marina and was a little more inquisitive about who Dru was. She couldn’t blame her for that. But by the end of the afternoon Camille hugged her and so did the kids before they left.

Marina’s dad was kind and personable. Dru could tell that’s where Marina got her business acumen. He was proud of all his daughters and seemed to get along well with the brothers-in-law, Greg and Tim. All in all it was one big happy family and they welcomed Dru.

She wasn’t fooling herself though. All families had issues from time to time. She just hoped never to become one for Marina.

When she pulled into the driveway of her house she noticed two cars parked in front of the Gallaher’s closed garage doors. She recognized one of them as Ella’s.
