Chapter 17
I see you, brother!
Selena
It took me a couple of hours to successfully suppress Sadeâs face and his pleading voice from my conscious mind. The more I thought about it, the more I believed that drastic measures had to be taken in order to sever the weave of feelings growing wildly inside my heart.
Leaning my head back on the edge of the heated jacuzzi, I closed my eyes, reveling in the silence.
Beneath this skin lies deafening silence.
Even his tattoo was a warning. Sade was an open tomb waiting for me to fall inside.
In any other circumstances I would have done it. But not in this reality. Falling for Sade felt too much like a win for my father and him, and I was too proud to let that happen. Was it childish? Probably. But I wanted my money and to get out of their chains, even at the expense of whatever was happening between us.
Luckily my thoughts were cut short by heavy footsteps on the wooden deck, and before I could check to whom they belonged, with a slosh, West jumped inside the jacuzzi, taking a seat beside me.
âAre you in hiding, little Malgrem?â
I popped one eye open and glared at him. West started laughing and tossed some water in my face, looping his arm around my shoulder.
âYou know... because of that sexy make-out session you had with Axton on the beach?â
Groaning, I covered my face with my forearm, already feeling my skin turning crimson.
âIt was a mistake.â
âDidnât look like one,â he taunted.
âAre you trying to hurt my pride?â I asked, gazing at him.
West forced his eyes wider, placing his fist over his heart.
âI feel wounded, mi sol. You thinking something like that after all these years of friendship makes my heart bleed.â
Friendship my arse. If only he knew I used to pine over him like a lovesick puppy.
But he hadnât called me his sun in ages and that made me smile at his silliness. He did the same before an uncomfortable silence stretched around us. He kept glancing my way, rubbing his nape, clearly lacking the courage to speak to me.
I had a wild guess what this was about, though. He most probably wanted to plead Hektorâs case. Make excuses for his best friendâs omission over who Ace was.
But since Hektor hadnât sought me out directly after the short exchange we had at Virtus, it only meant he was adamant about keeping some secrets for himself, and between lying to my face and evading me, my brother was picking the latter.
âLook, S, thereâs a powerful reason behind Hektorâs decision to keep you in the darkââ
Out of instinct, I placed two fingers on his lips and shook my head.
I wasnât listening to more crap.
Hell no!
His lips stopped moving, probably as surprised as I was by my boldness. Iâd never touched him on the lips before. It was a way too intimate gesture for two friends.
But now that the boundary had been crossed, I didnât stop there. This was the perfect
