“Are you all right, Mina?”

Mina turned. Her father sat in a reclining chair, reading from a book. A cup of coffee held in one hand filled the room with a rich aroma. He had been telling her a story and she had fallen asleep. Everything that had happened, had it been just a dream? Tears welled in her eyes at her relief.

“Papa!” She wiped the moisture from her eyes. “You wouldn’t believe the nightmare I had. I met an old lady and you…” Her voice hitched as she remembered. “You died.”

“It’s okay, Mina. I’m not dead.” Papa lowered the book and smiled at her; his crimson eyes seemed to glow. And Mina smiled back beneath their warmth. “Would you like me to continue the story?”

“Yes, please,” she said, lying back down on the ground.

“Do you need me to restart?”

“Can you tell me about your first expansion? When you led the Eternal Empire into new lands and conquered them?”

“Yes, dear.”

With a deft enough touch, you can erase part of a memory. Mold it how you wish. Alter everything to fit what you want.
