"I'd like that a lot, Matt," said Samantha.

"Sounds great," Malcolm said, double-jumping Rain's black checkers and clearing her two remaining pieces from the board. "I'm sure you can send mine in care of the county jail."

Rain threw a checker at him. "I think a book is a wonderful idea, Matthew. I'm sure your parents would want that." She stood from the floor and stretched. "Winner picks up, big man," she told Malcolm. "I'm going to head home, too. Nathan and I are going for a walk before heading over to Guthrie's for the viewing. Want me to take the Bible, Sam? So you don't have to worry? I'll probably beat you there anyway."

"That would be great," Samantha answered, "I think it's on Dad's nightstand."

Rain skipped up the stairs.

"Bible?" Malcolm asked.

"Rain thought it would be nice to have it on the table at the viewing tonight, if that's okay with you two."

"Of course," said Matthew.

Upstairs, Rain lifted Jack's Bible from the nightstand and noticed an envelope sneaking out of the top of the book. She pulled it out and read a sloppy, handwritten note on the front, written vertically, top to bottom.
