CHAPTER 29

A Wicked Queen and Her Sons

Undertaking the patrol of the castle for a cycle, Parvex led all of them to the right side of the building, and before everyone entered, Jared ambled inside first. He found several of the queen’s minions preparing meals in the kitchen. Before they could act, a blue light flashed within the room, freezing the minions in place. Jared cast his purifying light ability to all of them. After white tendril of lights enveloped them, they returned to their human selves and dropped to the floor unconscious.

The rest of the group strode inside, and Liam healed the four sleeping humans from their heavy wounds, which they had before. Parvex had mentioned that the prisoners would be kept in the dungeon, except when serving the dhamvens. Jared ordered Aloren’s group to turn their heels to the dungeon while he and his group would find the queen.

After separating, Aloren and her team trekked with careful steps through a long hallway. The early afternoon began within the sun, but inside, the place held darkness. With Liam’s illumination spell, the ability to see permeated around them. The noises of footsteps echoed, closing in their direction. Lord Jared had ordered to make sure the queen’s minions should not be killed unless necessary.

Aloren’s team hid from sight, and three people strode from a staircase. When they emerged, they strolled in a single file line. The group prepared themselves for their ambush, and then they lunged for their strike. Deploying her hand, Aloren slammed her fist at the last one in the head with a menacing blow, staggering the creature. It attempted to recover, but Luphinox hurled his fist to its head. It plopped on the ground, motionless.

Liam released a watermelon-sized ice ball at the next one, landing straight on its head. It faltered, confused, but another ice ball hit from the right on his head once more. The befuddled minion fell to the floor with a thud.

Zessin, Warklem, and Karthen rushed straight to the last one, but the minion took notice of what transpired. It attempted to flee, but Warklem raced for him and tackled him to the ground, hitting its face one after another. Zessin and Karthen followed his lead by hitting its head with considerable force for it to become unconscious. At last, the pale-skinned creature lay on the floor, mouth agape with blood dripping down.

They tied their hands as Zessin and Liam healed their wounds. They left the hallway and began to climb downstairs, and they contorted their faces in disgust, their eyes witnessing a horrifying sight. Multiple mangled bodies came strewn on two large tables. The putrid smell invaded their nostrils as blood and guts took a scattering disarray on the floor. Ten prison cells filled the stretch of the dungeon, and Liam sensed 19 women inside them. The human females crept to the bars, hope filling their hearts. However, he could sense two dhamven males locked away within their own cells.

“Master Liam, what is the best course of action here?” Aloren asked in a whisper.
