Chapter 9

Chancery was ready to blow, but I had protection. Adam was inside me. She might not care one bit about me, but I knew she cared about what happened to her son. She had been neglecting him for weeks in order to avoid me, and it might be that she decided to wait until he got here to make up for the time she missed with him.

I did not care about what Chancery had to say or do because I was a month away from freedom and I could almost taste the sweet relief. I just wanted to make sure that Adam was okay, so I was putting up with this very difficult situation of watching the woman I once loved kiss and caress other women and fucking them while we were under the same roof. It was hard for me, despite how much I hated her.

I knew that I hated Chancery, but I could not feel it because my heart was so badly broken that I couldn’t feel much of anything. Well, I loved Adam and I loved my parents, so it was the romantic feelings that I was having a problem with. I was feeling anger and jealousy…and pain. I started to breathe rapidly because I wanted to pour out everything inside me and tell her how cruel she was for hurting me so badly then trying to do the same thing to those women, but I did not want to put Adam under any more stress. I would bear it and continue to suffer for his sake because after I leave this place, I would take the time I needed to heal and then I would move on.

“I guess you’re mad because I called you out…”

“No, I’m mad because you did it in front of five women who are in a delicate state at the moment! I wanted to wring your fucking neck but I did not want to scare them, however, you have no problem fucking with their head!”

“I wanted them to know that they should not read your fake love and attention as something that would go beyond the moment those babies come out. I had experience in that department and I know how damaging it could be.”

“Do you know what it took out of me to not grab you and haul your ass out of that dining room? But I knew that they would see it as me physically abusing a surrogate and feel that the same thing would happen to them, because they have no idea about our past…”

“I chose to not tell them! I’m more concerned about their well-being than you are,” I said. “You know that they’re vulnerable at the moment and you’re taking advantage of them. Jillian is so in love with you and you keep leading her on, knowing that it would destroy her after she gives birth and see that you did not really give a damn about her.”

“You all knew what you were agreeing to, and I knew what I was paying for,” she said and my mouth flew open.
