Chapter Sixteen

After a turbulent few days, it was nice to walk back into the office building and feel the cool air rushing against my body. I waved at the receptionist, Kelly, who seemed to be very happy to see me back. She put out her arms, asking for an embrace. I rolled my eyes as I moved behind the desk, wrapping my arms around her waist, pulling her into an embrace.

"Oh Kelly, your hair smells so good. What kind of shampoo do you use? Herbal Essences?"

She giggled as she pushed me away, a small smirk on her lips. "You are such a creep! It's been far too long. You've been on vacation for a while!" She gave me a dramatic sigh and sat down in the chair with her manicured nails clicking on the keyboard, "You have three appointments today; all of them are clients that are moving from the boss to you, so you're going to have big shoes to fill. Your day looks like it will be extremely busy. Oh, and just a heads up, your office buddy is currently in the office setting up. He's a real cutie."

I did not look amused apparently because Kelly let out a soft laugh, "What's his name and how old does he act?"

Another small laugh left Kelly's lips, "His name is Oliver Welsh, and he acts like he's forty, but I assume he's somewhere around the age of twenty. Apparently, Mr. Johnson wants you working closely with him. He actually wants to see you in his office as soon as possible. Something about Oliver just moving from his home. I don't know the full story, but apparently it's a doozy. You might want to catch him before you retreat to your new office."

I grumbled under my breath, turning towards the elevator, "I'll show him not to place some new guy with me. I can't teach someone how to do their job, he should have learnt that in school for christ’s sake." As I turned toward the office, Kelly gave me a stupid flirtatious wave and returned to her computer, and the door closed as I huffed and gave her the middle finger.

The dinging sound kept my thoughts in check as I made my way up the building. I kind of wished the elevator would just stop in the middle of a floor, and I would be stuck on it. I was not looking forward to meeting this new colleague and I really just wanted to stop moving. As the elevator stopped at my destination, the doors slid open, and I was greeted by a red-faced and obviously exhausted Mr. Johnson.

"Good Morning sir. Kelly sent me up here to talk to you; apparently you wanted to see me?" I moved out of the elevator and walked towards his desk, which was conveniently placed meters from the elevator doors. "You look tired, is everything okay?"

Looking up from his papers, I saw an immediate change in his facial expression, "Hawkins! Thank God you're back, I don't think I could have dealt another day with that new .
