Julie, Joshua, and Anthony contemplated leaving as there would obviously be no more deliverance ministry this night. They decided to stay until the police had questioned the family. Anthony wondered if any of them would be taken downtown. His wondering soon ended when each family member slowly made their way back to the living room.
Pamela broke the silence by apologizing for Christina. Anthony was moved by her loyalty to her husband, but there was no reason to apologize for Christina. Anthony was a big boy who made a big-boy decision. He was accountable for his actions.
âListen,â he said, âWe all know there is something really wrong here. I have to believe this thing somehow influenced Jonathan. You are all saying that he was not capable of this on his own. Nothing else makes sense. Unfortunately, he is still accountable for his actions.â
Nathan ferociously defended his father, saying, âHe is a good man. He was always a good dad. He loves us. Just because he made a mistake doesnât mean I donât love him. These cops are going to put him in jail.â Anthony grabbed him and pulled him close. He hugged him and as he cried. Anthony allowed his tears before responding.
Calmly he said, âNathan, I am not here to judge your father. I am not one of those guys that thinks all sex offenders should be executed. God loves all of us. More importantly, Godâs forgiveness is for everyone. People like to judge others who they see as worse. It helps them justify their own sin. If we truly believe in Godâs grace, we donât have time to judge others. We should be grateful that our sin is forgiven.â
Nathan hugged the pastor tightly as he continued to weep. Anthony said, âI canât wait to meet your dad. It is also important that we look out for Jenna. It is our job to make sure she is safe. I am here to put this family back together, not tear it apart. Trust me, I care about your father too. I care about all of you.â
This seemed to comfort all of them. Anthony wanted to continue his questions but saw that it was already twenty-five after three in the morning. That was enough for one night. He told the family that they would reconvene the next evening. The family was too tired to argue. He trusted that the sun would be out soon, and the family would be okay for one more night.
He said a quick prayer of protection, and the children were off to bed. Pamela began to cry. Julie hugged her tightly as she melted.
âI told them he had been in the house, but I knew it wasnât him. I was just afraid Christina would tell them that too. Then they would think I was hiding something.â
Julie assured her that she did the right thing considering the circumstances. Anthony could sense her underlying anger toward Christina. He also had some concerns regarding the not-so-innocent little seven-year-old. She always seemed to blare out information at just the right time to stir up controversy.
