âHowâs yourââ Adler thought otherwise and said, âHowâs Cheyanne? Itâs Cheyanne, right?â
âCheyanne or Lily, depends on who you ask,â Chris replied. âThanks for helping out around here while Pax is away.â
âMorgan is planning some surprise. She told me she wanted me out of the house today. I told her sheâs crazy. I came here to help with whatever you need.â
âA surprise, huh?â
âI donât know⦠She does little things like that sometimes. Iâll get home, and there are flowers on the counter. Or, sheâs planned a weekend away for us where weâll camp and get away from everything. She really is an amazing girlfriend. Iâm so lucky I found her.â
âI kind of feel the same way about your sister,â Chris offered.
âPax is amazing. Iâm glad you two have each other. Sheâs the most supportive person in the world. Sheâs brilliant and could have done anything she wanted. Ever since she started her own business, sheâs been incredibly successful in her professional life. But in her personal life, sheâs just never been really all that settled. What Iâve seen since she met you, though, is the opposite of that. And Iâm so glad. My parents are, too. Even though weâve both now moved away from them, they love the fact that weâre both finally settling down and that weâre happy.â
âThey know about me?â
âPax told them all about you. You didnât know that?â Adler asked as she finished cleaning the roller theyâd used to finish painting one of the rooms.
âShe mentioned it; she just didnât go into a lot of details.â
âShe does that.â Adler laughed. âShe told them all about you and Wes, though. We were on FaceTime with them. I could see how happy she was, and so could they. Theyâll start giving her a hard time about meeting you soon.â
âI guess thatâs the next step for us, huh?â
âMeeting the parents? It happens when you know youâve met someone worth introducing to them, yeah. I know she feels that way about you.â
âI would have had her meet mine already, if that was an option,â Chris replied, placing a few stray paint brushes into an empty can to store overnight.
âHow are you dealing with Cheyanne being around?â
âItâs been two days. Iâm trying to be civil, for Wes. I know Paxton wants me to get to know her, too. I know theyâre right. Sheâs an old woman, whoâs lost everything. But thereâs just something I canât seem to let go of.â
âIs Pax pushing you to do this?â
âNo.â Chris folded her arms over her chest. âAs much as I thought your sister was a complete and total stuck-up asshole when we first met, sheâs really the opposite of that. Sheâs supportive, like you said. And sheâs so sweet sometimes. She doesnât push me to do something specific; she just pushes me to be a better person.â
âI think thatâs one of the benefits of falling in love with someone. Morgan makes me better, too.â
âI just donât know if Iâm doing anything for Pax,â Chris said.
âAre you kidding?â Adler chuckled.
