Dro led Mia into his two-bedroom house located in South Roc City. Mia still felt iffy about the situation, but he was right, she needed a break from the most recent chapter of her life. As soon as she walked through the door Mia was shocked at the cleanliness of his home. For some reason she expected a bachelor’s pad to be junky, littered with empty pizza boxes, beer bottles, and condom wrappers. The creamy white walls of the spacious quarter seemed freshly painted and held random art of Rastafarian lifestyles and Bob Marley quotes; this wasn’t a shock to her.
His eye for furniture was impressive. The contemporary sectional was two toned chocolate leather and charcoal black vinyl. The matching ottoman held a blue marble ashtray with marijuana residue and cigar tobacco. His 55” Sony flat screen was mounted to the wall with handmade shelves positioned beneath it. As Mia stood there, her constant gaze and slow observation circles gave it away that she was impressed.
“I guess you thought a nigga lived in a pig sty huh?” Dro said as he tossed his keys on the kitchen table. “Just cause I’m dirty all day at work don’t mean I live like that,” he said with a smile as he flicked on the light in the kitchen.
“Nah, but I did expect it to be junky. You seem like the lazy type,” Mia said as she placed her bag on the couch. She didn’t feel comfortable letting him know that it was full of drug money covered in underwear and socks.
“Please… Cleanliness is close to godliness,” Dro quoted as he swung the refrigerator door open. “Aye, my bathroom is down the hall on the right. You can take a bubble bath, shower, or a warm birdbath in the sink if you want. I know you gotta be funky from running these streets,” Dro joked. He pulled out a package of meat and placed it near the sink.
“Thanks, and for the record I don’t stink nigga… I know that toilet better not have piss sprinkles on it,” Mia said as she grabbed her bag and headed down the hall.
“It better not have any when you exit either.”
While Mia took a long hot shower, Dro worked his ass off in the kitchen, slaving over the stove in attempts to impress his guest. He tossed a couple of rib eye steaks on, stirred up a pot of Mac & Cheese with diced jalapenos, and tried his best not to burn his cornbread while he constantly forked through the string beans; he felt like he was on an episode of Chopped on the Food Network.
Smoking as much weed as he did, he learned quickly how to cook and cure his munchies.
As soon as Mia stepped out of her 45-minute cleansing, she cracked the door open to the hallway and smelt the aroma of a home cooked meal sweep in. She forgot to ask Dro for something to sleep in but it seemed as if he had read her mind.
