Later that evening, Randall and Sherri lay side by side, enjoying the breeze coming in from the open patio doors in their master suite.

Randall reached for Sherri’s hand. “Did I detect a little trouble in paradise?”

“With Nate and Dev?”

“Uh-huh.”

“Yes, you did.”

“What happened to upset the lovebird nest? I can’t remember ever hearing that those two even argued.”

“The same thing that happens far too often: Nate couldn’t keep his penis to himself.”

Randall was silent a moment before responding. “They’ve been together for what, a year or so?”

“Right at . . . a little over a year.”

“Shoot. I’m surprised he lasted this long.”

“Babe!”

“Hey, I’m just being honest. How realistic is it to expect a young, virile man to be satisfied sexually when he sees his woman every month or two, especially a man living in Atlanta, surrounded by all of that chocolate-covered goodness? There’s no way I’d commit to someone who lived so far away.”

“Weren’t James and Debbie long-distance lovers before they got married? They met online, right?”

“He was in New York and she was in Texas. But the minute they decided it was serious, she relocated. That’s what either Nate or Dev is going to have to do if they want the relationship to work.”

Sherri nestled her head against Randall’s shoulder. He ran a hand up and down her arm. “I was so glad to hear that James’s father pulled through. While watching him today I saw relief all over his face.”

“Wasn’t for Debbie, they wouldn’t be here. James was reluctant to leave his father, but Debbie knew he needed the break. It was good for them to get away.”

“It was good for us, too.”

“You’d better believe it.”

“No calls from Ralph, huh?”

“Nope.”

“I wonder what that means?”

“It probably means that whatever she’s doing is none of our business. Let’s hope it stays that way.”
