The sounds of feet scuffling and a flicker of light warned them as they moved down the winding narrow tunnel that the thieves were close by. They had been walking for several minutes in near-perfect darkness, each person had their hand on the shoulder of the person in front of them, and Katya was fighting with her mind to keep her thoughts on the task at hand as she continued to consider what it would feel like to have the Oracle’s hand on other parts of her body. His touch was almost electric, even through the thin material of her wrap-around dress.

As the light grew brighter, she dropped her hand from Sebastian’s shoulder, she considered for a moment before turning slightly and slowing her pace. It was just light enough that Dryadon didn’t walk into her. She held out one of the daggers, hilt first, leaned in as close as possible, and murmured in his ear, “Take this, hold it like you know what you are doing, but don’t do anything stupid.” She breathed in his scent before stepping back and letting go of the dagger.

Turning back, she moved swiftly to catch up with Calliope and Sebastian just as they came to a broader bend in the tunnel, where the sounds and light seemed to be coming from. Calliope didn’t stop, she kept walking, and Katya soon found herself in a circular room with an assortment of different races spaced out, weapons up. “Well, what have we here? A party without me? How very disappointing,” announced Calliope.

Katya quickly scanned through ten or so occupants in the room to find the Oracle Ramil wasn’t with them. She noted that the tunnel continued on the other side of the circular room. “We head for that tunnel,” she told Dryadon. “No matter what happens, keep going. Calliope has got this.”

“Sebastian, stay with Calliope and bring up the rear once you are done here,” Katya managed to get out before the sound of weapons clashing filled the room. She lifted her dagger and impaled the nymph who ran at her. The purple-eyed woman grunted as the needle-thin blade pierced her shoulder. The nymph lifted her free hand and swung her sword over her head, giving Katya the time she needed to step in and lift her free hand to grasp the downward falling blade. While keeping the nymph’s sword away from her, Katya pressed her blade further into the shoulder of her opponent until it was up to the hilt. She twisted it sharply and the nymph went limp with pain, giving Katya enough time to swiftly withdraw her dagger and plunge it into the side of the nymph’s body. The purple-eyed creature crumpled to the ground as she attempted to stem the flow of blood. Katya stepped around her and kept moving toward to exit on the other side. Twice more she faced an opponent who she bested easily and stepped over.

Finally, Katya and Dryadon reached the exit, and Katya paused to check on Calliope.
