The ghoul put the manuscript down, removed his spectacles, then looked round the table. His venture into authorship had not been well received. Both Eramus and the werevamp had fallen asleep, the little vamgoo had been mixing his drinks and was now singing – if the strange noise he periodically ejaculated, could be so designated – a refrain which never progressed beyond the following words:

Give me blood, give me meat:

Let me gnaw a dead man’s feet:

And I’ll pass the night with you.
