She stiffened, listening. There was a growing murmur, as faint as the rustling of leaves. Now she was more certain, the sound swelling into the familiar sounds of chanting and the shuffle of feet, the tinkling of bells and the beat of tambors. They were coming. He was coming.

She rose, taking an involuntary step backward until she felt the hard, cold stone at her back. Her breath caught in her throat.
