Anjali had first met Babita, during one of the rehabilitation programs that her NGO had organized for a few, out-of-work dance bar girls of Mumbai. Her NGO had approached a couple of industries in Pune, who had agreed to employ those girls in their various departments, like packaging, records, cooking etc. While all the other girls were grateful to her and the NGO for the initiative, Babita was the only one, who didn't seem happy in her new job. Not even 15 days had passed since, when she found Babita standing outside her office, early in the morning, carrying her tattered, old suitcase. She told Anjali that the office manager used to harass her, and make dirty advances towards her, so she had run off from there. During the course of next couple of months, Babita had left and ran off, from four different organizations that Anjali had arranged for her; and every time she had a brand new excuse for her action.
After all her efforts of getting Babita settled in a job had failed, Anjali finally took her out one day, to a quite restaurant, ordered a big lunch, and asked her about her past. Babita went on to narrate her life story to her, in as much detail as she could. She told her, about her drunkard husband and his many affairs on the side. She also told her that she had left her husband and ran off from the house, and that she didn't have any money and nowhere to go, when she came to know about this dance bar in Mumbai, and went on to work there.
"I loved the easy money in the dance bar," Babita said.
"Didn't you hate all those men lusting at your body like that," Anjali asked her, in disbelief.
"Everyone uses their body to earn money. Some work as laborers, some as big Managers, me, I do this. What's there to hate? Besides, the money is good, and men are so easy to fool, when they are horny," Babita replied, with an innocent smile on her face.
From that day on, and for some strange reason, Anjali had started taking Babita as a challenge. She was determined to help her change her life around, and live respectfully. She talked to her assistant Kavita, who she knew, stayed alone in an apartment in Pune. Kavita immediately agreed to have Babita, come over and stay with her. Babita was supposed to cook, wash clothes, clean and generally take care of the house, for which, Kavita would deposit Rs 5000/- every month, in a savings bank account in her name. The arrangement went well for a few months, right until that conference in Delhi.
One day, after coming back from Delhi, Anjali told Kavita that she was looking for a temporary housemaid, as she was to go to Singapore for a week, and didn't want Mihir and Jay to suffer. It was Kavita, who suggested her to have Babita stay at her place, for the duration. Anjali asked
