During the past year, Enid's apartment in Columbia had been her refuge, her sanctuary. Now it felt empty. She ran her hand across the small desk and wiped the dust. Maybe it was time to start a new life. But right now, she needed to focus on the next article for her editor. She had enough information from Theo for this one, but she would need more research to continue the series.

She had been working for almost an hour when her cell phone interrupted. Josh's number appeared on the screen and she answered.

"I got your text. You're in Columbia?" he asked.

"Yes, I need to do some work here."

"I miss you."

Enid thought of Dr. Wright’s advice and hesitated on how to answer. "Me too."

"Detective Pointer called me after she got the information from you. I updated her on our little adventure in the woods. She's asked me to help her on Hari's case, since Kat's car was found near Madden. I reminded her that the location of Kat's car and the airstrip are both out of my jurisdiction, but she's talked to the county sheriff, and he's more than happy for me to work on it, since he's down a couple deputies. I promised to keep him in the loop."

The implications of Josh's comments were just sinking in. They would both be working on Hari's case. "That's good, I mean, if it's something you want to do. Has Pointer talked to Theo?"

"No, I don't think so. There's not really anything concrete to tell him at this point. We don't know if or how any of this is connected to Hari's disappearance, although it hardly seems like a coincidence. What I'm happy about is getting to work with you.” He paused. “By the way, Jack is worried about you."

Enid chose her next words carefully. "I care a lot about Jack."

Josh sighed softly. "I know. And he cares about you very much. Maybe even something more."

"How does that make you feel?" She was amused at how much she sounded like Dr. Wright.

Josh didn't answer right away. "I'd like to answer that one over dinner when you come back to Madden."
