George had Theresa speak with his wife, and what the probation officer heard sent chills down her spine. She couldn’t sleep that night and picked up the phone to call her friend Bobby Miller. Miller and his wife were fast asleep when the phone rang. “I know who killed that girl,” the voice on the phone said. Miller had to think a moment and wipe the cobwebs from his head.

“What?” he asked.

Bonny explained that she had a witness to the crime. “I asked if she would talk with me,” said Miller, and Bonny responded, “Probably would, but she’s really scared to death.”

Later that morning, Bonny set up a meeting in an open and public place with plenty of people around, as specified by Theresa. The meeting would take place at the Monmouth County Mall in a jewelry store there.

The mall is a large indoor and outdoor shopping center located in Eatontown, where thousands of people shop weekly. Miller arrived at 10:00 a.m. and noticed that the lots were already quite full. He saw Bonny waiting for him. Together they walked inside to meet Theresa, who was waiting. Looking at the woman standing there white as a ghost, Miller introduced himself. Her voice was sweet but crackled as she spoke, and she nervously scanned back and forth to see who was watching. If she wanted to be inconspicuous, she wasn’t helping her case. “We had to go to the JC Penny store to talk. She was afraid to speak in the open, so we went over to the curtain section, where we would be concealed by the curtain display,” recalled Miller. There, between the curtains, Theresa told her tale of dead bodies, drugs, guns and even bombs. “What she said would make your hair stand up,” Miller said. Hearing her talk, he, too, began to look around. This was not the place for them to be speaking. “I convinced her it would be in her best interest to come in and give us a statement.”
