Chapter 15: Escape!

“You cannot escape the responsibility

of tomorrow by evading it today.”

A couple of hours passed in silent fear. About 1:00 pm Amy heard someone at the big steel door. It was Liz. She opened the door quietly and did not shut it all the way. There was a frightened, serious look in her eye.

“Shhhh!” she said.”We've got to get you two out of here. I'm hearing the talk out front and it isn't good. You two are to be eliminated tonight, about dark. They're already preparing a grave at the cemetery. A guard was actually boasting about it. I guess you two have made a few enemies around here.

According to what I overheard, you'll be taken over to the cemetery around 8:00 pm, shot in the head, dumped in the hole and you will simply disappear, . . . permanently.

According to the story they will tell, you two will be reported as escaped. There will be an APB and no one will ever find you. Of course you will be buried, probably half-alive tonight, if you don't escape right now.

I want you both to know I would never be a part of anything like that. I didn't know what I was in for when I signed-on for this job. This isn't my cup of tea. I'm getting you and Doug out of here right now. Grab your street clothes and put them back on. Get out of that jumpsuit.

I'm on my way over to get Doug out first, I may need his help to get all three of us past those guards out in admin and then on through the main gate. We're getting completely away from this place. Be ready! If everything goes well, I'll return with Doug in about 10-minutes and we'll all make the escape together. It won't be soon enough for me. I'm looking for a new job, starting right now.”

Amy was more terrified than ever now. But, at least they might have a chance to make it. She was out of the jumpsuit and back into her street clothes in under 20 seconds. It had to be a record for a female getting ready to go anywhere.

She took a position at the steel door. As soon as it opened again, she would be ready to go.

Liz was a stocky gal. She was 35 years old and worked-out a lot trying to control her weight and her figure. Nature hadn't been kind to her since birth. She had always been big. Some called it big boned, when they were being nice. She was just big. It was genetic. She stood 5' 11” in her bare feet and weighed too close to 190 lbs. The workouts with the weights had toned her muscles to a point where she was as strong as most men and stronger than a lot of them. She was perfectly suited for employment as a guard. She was big and she knew how to handle herself in a fight. She had grown up as the only girl, with four brothers.
