CHAPTER 15

CATCHING FISH, SOME BONDING AND A PARROT

We moseyed over to the new Grove, and since I didn’t want to cruise past the Temple and disturb my bride to be, we drifted to the western side of the second wall. All the construction taking place, much of which was by good ole’ magic, was insanely beautiful. Salazar had already spent a prodigious amount of Spirit Coins to literally move it like a kid playing with legos out to it’s new demarcation. By the time he was done our City was going to be massive, 20 miles in total from one end to the other. By old Earth standards tiny but by War World standards, massive and fitting of a Capitol City.

According to Mase, the new and improved Grove was replaced and expanded up against the newly extended Second Wall to utilize its power to reinforce that section of defensive structure in case of invasion. And as I thought and had guessed, the Grove was responsible for the thorny devil bushes I rolled through earlier. There were already plans that they would be expanded throughout the Second and Third Ring. It would funnel anyone that breached the walls to be where we wanted while also utilizing the trees and the impassable bushes to blockade any cohesive movement from the enemies and more important then any other aspect, slow their advance and allow the defenders to set up ambushes and reprisal.

So everything I had envisioned that I thought I would need to converse with Salazar and Gramps about was already in progress, more then likely courtesy of Gramps. Never underestimate or doubt a career Marine. I had to learn to trust people. I had already made the decision to do so with the formation of the Council now I had to trust that they would do what needed to be done without second guessing them the entire way. I chuckled to myself. Mase was right as usual. I needed to transform my outlook and focus more on appreciating the people that were making this City a home and let them get to it. I should of already learned that just by watching Ruri and the way she worked. She was the embodiment of what a ruler should be, always trusting those around her to do their jobs while also showing appreciation and love for the citizens of her city. I mean fuck, she was hella more popular then me based on reactions from people when we moved through the City. I had to admit to myself that I had a lot to learn and I needed to get to it. I also had to own up to the fact that that was okay. I wasn’t being fair to myself, comparing us. Ruri had been taught since she was a child to rule while I literally had spent my childhood learning to fight and not much else.

I had to have an honest convo with my lovely woman. Dig into her mind for lessons just as much as I dug into her body for, other things.
