The place is Bolgheri, or rather that stretch of coast south of Marina di Bibbona that some call Renaione, others Palone, and the Carrera family generically calls Bolgheri, meaning not the nearby village close around to the castle of Gherardesca, but directly the pine forest and the beach below - also, however, still almost entirely the prerogative of that noble family. In this wild stretch of coast, in the early sixties, the Carrera couple found a way to buy a small ruined farmhouse just behind the dunes, with a piece of pine forest around it. Their intention was to make it the symbolic place of happiness that, with two small children and a third on the way, they were convinced they could spread around the world. The restructuring of the ruin was carried out by both, in harmony, Letizia for the shape and Probus for the growth, since over the years it has been constantly enlarged and embellished, with and without permits, and therefore transformed, from the small cottage that was, in an elegant buen retiro in the heart of the Maremma. Too bad that in the meantime the harmony between Letizia and Probus has run out, and the obstinacy in spending the holidays there every year all together seems more like a self-defeating vice.
