CHAPTER 18
ROYAL
The naked rule.
I like it.
But Iâm definitely dressed right now. So I know whatever we talk about at dinner is very much on the record. Even though Iâm starting to trust Soren, and Iâm pretty sure if I asked him not to divulge anything, he wouldnât.
But the naked rule works for me. Maybe itâs because I absolutely like being naked with Sorenâor maybe itâs just silly enough to be the perfect agreementâI donât know, but it works.
Sadly, I didnât get any more naked time with Soren today. After we agreed to dinner with Jenny, we played with the dogs for a while in my backyard, had a quick lunch, and then mostly just hung out at my placeâfully clothed.
But he didnât try to question me.
It was very casual.
Very ordinary but not boring. Not at all. I always thought I needed flash and thrills, but with Soren, I donât want any of that. Iâm perfectly content, watching mundane television and playing with my dogs until itâs time to go to dinner with Jenny.
Who, by the way, totally knows something is up.
What, Iâm not sure sheâs figured out, but she eyed us pretty damn hard when we walked into the upscale restaurant together. I wanted to grab his hand in mine, claim him right then and there.
But I decided that might be pushing it.
Kansas City isnât really full of paparazzi, but that doesnât mean people wouldnât have their phones out and snapping pictures if I walked inside, hand and hand with Soren. Weâre both fairly famous around here, and even just walking into the place not holding hands, we had a fair share of photos snapped.
âSo how is the project going, Soren?â Jenny asks, taking a drink of her martini as we sit at the table, waiting for the food we ordered.
We both flinch at her calling me a project, and yeah, she notices. Jenny misses nothing. I recover a little faster than Soren, but heâs the one to answer. âItâs going well. People are really warming up to Royal.â
Iâm not sure thatâs true, but I keep my mouth shut. âIâve seen the comments,â Jenny says, and I swear I see a ghost of a smile. âNow that itâs off-season, what do you have planned?â
The question is directed at Soren, so he answers, âWhatever Royal wants to show me.â
His sweet smile has me grinning like a goofy idiot, and I can feel Jennyâs eyes on me now. But does she look annoyed or amused? I canât really tell. âAnd what do you have planned to show him, Royal?â
Yeah. She, for sure, knows.
I donât answer with âmy dick,â so thereâs some progress. Really, she should be proud because itâs difficult not to say since she clearly knows I either have already or would like to again.
âI donât have any plans yet.â
I know she does though, and Iâm not surprised at all when she starts naming things I could do. âYou can volunteer at the animal shelter again. That was quite a hit.â
I nod in agreement as I take a drink of water.
