“It’s so funny that as soon as I hung up with Mimi, your sister called. She sounded better, by the way, so Kevin’s lemonade advice must’ve helped.”

The way Travis’s brows lifted, it was news to him. “My sister called you?”

Uh-oh. She had to go carefully here. “Actually, we talk often.”

After a two-second pause, he said, “I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Sheena’s made it clear how much she likes you.”

“The feeling is mutual.”

His smile brightened. “Yeah, she’s pretty special.”

So much pride infused the words. “She’s like her big brother that way.”

His hands tightened on the wheel. “I hated seeing her so sick today.”

“I remember Mimi got really sick too, though not all women do. Oh, and Sheena said her doctor wasn’t worried, so there’s that.”

“I saw the image of the baby.” He flashed her a crooked smile. “Looks like a little alien, really.”

Yardley laughed. “Those first ultrasounds do.” She enjoyed Travis’s profile, how affectionate he appeared while discussing his sister. “Sheena said she napped for a bit, and now she’s going to watch a movie with Todd. I guess they don’t get a lot of time off together.” She’d also asked some pointed questions about Yardley seeing her brother. Because she knew it was important to Travis, Yardley had insisted things were casual.

To Travis, they were, but Yardley had left casual far behind.

Sheena had claimed she approved, just in case they got serious, but with the caveat that Yardley couldn’t bail on her wedding if things ended badly.

She’d assured Sheena that she was far too professional for anything vindictive...but was she? If Travis suddenly lost interest and then, horror of horrors, he brought a date to the wedding, would she be able to keep her cool while still supervising everything—or would she be too distracted to concentrate?

Yes, she decided. She would absolutely fulfill her duties as the wedding planner. It wouldn’t be the first time her pride had carried her through a difficult situation.

Pride, and Mimi.

Maybe she could get Sheena to invite Mimi and Kevin to the wedding, just in case she needed moral support? The two of them seemed to be getting closer.

Unaware of the turbulent path her thoughts had taken, Travis said, “Todd works whatever overtime he can,” as he pulled into the park. “That used to bug me, too. I understand hard work and long hours, but the timing seemed suspicious, like he was just dodging wedding responsibilities.”

“Until you saw them together today.” Shaking off her reservations, she beamed at him, glad that he wasn’t one of those stubborn people who dug in and stuck with an opinion. “Now you have a better impression of their relationship.”

“Hard not to, with the way he dotes on her, and how she looks at him.” He passed a few different areas of the park. “The apartment is still too damn small for both of them and a baby, but hopefully that’ll be temporary.”

“Travis Long. You should know it doesn’t matter where someone lives when they truly love each other.”

“In theory, I agree.
