I lay in bed staring at the ceiling. The heat is on too high in the room, and the number of sheets and blankets on this bed are numerous. I went to bed a little early, just before eleven. I won the beer pong game. Tate was definitely the worst of all the people here. It was a good thing Emily only poured the glasses half full or Tate might have gotten drunk. Me? I had to drink about half of the cups and could definitely feel the alcohol inside of me. Maybe that’s why I’m so damn hot right now. I toss off the duvet and decide it’s not enough.

I kick off the sheets and pad over to the thermostat in my thick socks. I turn it down just a fraction. Since I came back here and face-planted into bed, I didn’t draw the shades. I approach them now to pull them closed. The moon is full and lays really low. It’s like it sits on the hill, shining down on it to make the snow glow gray in the night.

My belly rumbles, and I place a hand on it. I should have eaten more pizza. I still have to give Tate money for that. He paid for all of it. Only Emily and I offered to help pay. He kept saying, “Yeah, later, whatever.” I have a feeling he won’t take anything so I’ll have to leave it in his jacket pocket or something. He’s already paying for so much. I’m still bothered about the hot chocolate he ensured I wouldn’t pay for. I won’t let him pay for me again. Especially since we’re sleeping together.

The more I think about the pizza, the hungrier I get. I wonder if there’s any left. I have to check. Just one piece would be enough. What time is it? I glance at my watch. Wow. It’s after two. The world is quiet, and I’m sure the rest of the cabin is sleeping. I slowly open the beautiful dark-stained door of my room and make for the stairs. The steps creak as I descend. I know it’s not loud, but because I’m trying so hard to be quiet, my footfalls sound like they’re wired to an amplifier. I slow down, hoping to be quieter, but it makes it worse.

Someone left the hall light on downstairs. Good thing, I have no idea where the light switch is. I tiptoe into the kitchen. The hall light is enough for me to see what I’m doing. Four pizza boxes sit on the marble island, and I open each one, peeking inside for crumbs. Nothing.

I open the fridge. What? It’s actually stocked. Why is it stocked? Who stocked it? Is it always? Wow, rich people sure get a lot of perks. I’d love for someone to stock the little fridge we keep beside our desk in our dorm room.

A giggle draws my attention to the patio doors. Damn my glasses. I really need to get a new prescription.
