Symbols of wealth and power. In the novel there are certain symbols for wealth: bound feet for example. If a family was wealthy enough, they could afford to bind the feet of their girls, as a sign that they didn’t need them as workers. Jewels and jewelry have always been symbols of wealth. What are some other symbols in this day and age, used to show wealth and power? Why do you think humans show off their wealth?
