1 DRAW THE ACTION LINE

Start with a dot that will represent the placement of the head and draw a long, curvy line. Draw loosely from your wrist to give your line a boost of energy. This line will become one side of the serpent’s body.

2 SKETCH YOUR GESTURE DRAWING

Using the dot as a reference point, sketch in the serpent’s head with simple shapes. Give your serpent a gaping jaw. Draw another spiraling line alongside the line you made in the previous step to complete the serpent’s body. It’s okay to draw through the overlapping shapes to connect your lines properly. Make the neck area thicker and gradually taper your serpent’s body as you get toward the tail to show that the serpent is very long and the tail is much farther away from the viewer than the head.
