CHAPTER 9

Freeland looked over at the two men and shook his head sadly. They were ten years older than Freeland and the one with sandy brown hair named Kez and the dark haired Stan had been talking nonstop. Freeland had arrived at the capital an hour ago and the two Enchanters in front of him were bragging about how good they had it with the royal family. One had even lost his entire family like Liam but was happy he didn't die because the king’s men had taken him in after the war. He was currently trying to build a magic finder like the one Briff had, Liam had told him the things were crude and only worked from a distance of a few feet.

“Do you want to see your rooms?” Kez asked as his brown eyes sparkled.

“Not really,” Liam said. “All cages are just alike, doesn't matter how they are decorated.”

“You are not in a cage,” Stan replied. “You can go wherever you want. Are you going to show us your technique so we can make wands and things too? I want to make one for the king or maybe even the Archmage that is up to standard.”

“Wand making is not for everyone,” Liam said as he gave Freeland a side eye. “Let me see your technique and I will tell you if you would be any good at wand making. It is not something every Enchanter can do. Who did your family belong to prior to the war?”

“The community," Stan replied. “We were going to be sold, probably the only thing that kept us safe in the initial purge. Everyone forgot about the slaves that were for sale and instead killed their personal slaves but that was a long time ago and not worth bringing up the past. My life here is much better than it had been. At the end of the day, sometimes they get a few of the ladies to come around and make us feel very welcome. You two are going to love this place, all we have to do is make magic items.”

“I hate this place already," Freeland said. “We might as well find our room so we can get our stuff put into it.”

“You don't have to share the same room,” Kez said. “It would make things awkward if the ladies came by. You get whatever you need to make items here, best of all when you are out of magic you just sit around and enjoy life.”

“We are sharing a room,” Liam and Freeland both said as they looked at each other.

“Why?” Kez asked. “I just told you that you can get your own room.”

“Don't want it," Freeland said. “Let’s find us a room then wait for the show to begin, it won't be long before someone comes to make our lives hell.”

Freeland helped his uncle to a door and peeked inside. It was a small room Freeland thought as he sat his uncle on one of the two small beds. The room was empty except for the beds, one small wardrobe, two small chairs and a small table.
