Chapter 7

I swung my sword, dealing a critical hit and decapitating the alpha rat’s head. A week had passed since we defeated the Azer. Last night we encountered a nest of giant rats. It had taken the entire night to kill them all. They had a network of small tunnels leading from the small cave the nest was located in, to other smaller caves. James had insisted that we find and kill all the rats, he’d said I’d need to be at least level ten if I wanted to survive in The Lich King’s fortress.

I slumped against the wall of the cave, exhaustedly looking over my notifications:

EXPERIENCE GAINED 600, Giant Rat x10, Giant Rat Alpha x1, LEVEL UP! HP and MP Restored, +4 Intelligence, +2 Wisdom, +2 Dexterity, You have 1 Free Stat Point, +5 Health, +5 Mana, Skill Gained: Mana Regeneration - Common, Previously you passively regenerated 1 MP per second, now you regenerate 3 MP per second, Elementalist Skill Gained: Elemental Resistance - Rare, You have a 25% Resistance to all Tier 1 Elements: Fire, Water, Air, Earth. That was great, because my elementalist robes were practically shredded tatters at this point, down to eleven durability. SUBCLASS UPGRADE AVAILABLE - Options: Increase Fire Affinity, Fire Elementalist will become Pyromancer; Increase Dark Affinity, Dark Priest will become Shadow Summoner, or Dark Knight.

I studied the new subclass options, as I focused on them, descriptions appeared: The path of the Pyromancer unlocks new Fire Skills, Abilities, and Spells, and opens the path to more powerful Fire Element Subclasses in the future, Pyromancers wield explosive fiery power, capable of mass destruction; the Pyromancer class gives benefits to Intelligence, and Wisdom. That sounded pretty good, more fire spells. I examined the other options, why did the Dark Affinity have two options? It wasn’t listed as a tier one element in my resistance skill, so maybe it was a tier two:

The path of the Shadow Summoner unlocks new Dark related Skills, Abilities, and Spells, and opens the path to more powerful Dark Element subclasses in the future, Shadow Summoners summon Dark Creatures to fight for them, while Shadow Summoners don’t have the capability of creating large army’s like Necromancers, Shadow Summoners trade size for strength, The Shadow Summoner class gives bonuses to Intelligence and Wisdom.

The path of the Shadow Summoner seemed very appealing, I could see the value in having a few powerful summons protecting you. On this journey through the Underland I’d been forced into the role of a front line fighter, but if I could have the summons doing the front line fighting for me I could stay back and cast spells. I examined the third option: The path of the Dark Knight unlocks new Dark related Skills, Abilities, and Spells, and opens the path to more powerful Dark Element subclasses in the future. Dark Knights master close combat weapons that they imbue with their Dark Mana, Dark Knights use their Dark Mana to strengthen themselves and their weapons. The Dark Knight class gives bonuses to Wisdom, and Strength.
