In 1974, McLean recorded songs with the Sloop Singers for the Clearwater album. It was the Sloop Singers first album, and the proceeds were used to promote the clean-up of the Hudson River. McLean recorded a new version of his song "Tapestry" for the album, and he sang the chorus vocals for "The Seaman’s Hymn." He also sang "Shenandoah" with Pete Seeger. The album sounded muddy, so Don volunteered to re-mix parts of it. He made it sound more than tolerable. In May, he recorded the background vocal for the title track of Pete Seeger’s Banks of Marble album. It is the only Seeger/McLean duet ever recorded.
