Okay: I have something to confess that I’m not proud of. The truth is that we left the concert after the “Hey Jude” encore and missed Jon Bon Jovi coming out and singing with McCartney on “Birthday,” Bruce coming back out, and apparently a “Helter Skelter” for the ages. And it was all my fault. I’d been burned so badly at MetLife before, having sat in the parking lot for hours after seeing U2. I vowed I’d never do it again! We felt pretty good about it last night, but Hickey says he would’ve sat in the two hours of traffic in order to have seen that encore. I agreed, but I’m secretly glad we got home in a half hour and got to have a burger, which sat in my stomach like a rock this morning as I got Ben ready for his last day of school.

Garcelle is out for RHUGT, and I’m hoping Shannon Beador can do it. She would be incredible with this group. Kathy Wakile sent me a huge amount of gifts for the kids. I was so touched, especially after not having spoken to her for years. I called her, and we had a great chat. Lots of Lucy time. Jackie came over, and we took the subway up to see MJ: The Musical. Forgot our masks, but the subway was empty. Drink at the Russian Samovar before, which brought back memories of intermissions past on Fifty-Second Street. Got to MJ and again realized we had no masks. They gave us some. The music and dancing were spectacular! We smoked a little of a joint before we went in and, during the (terrible—as bad as the music was good) exposition, my mind was wandering all over the place as I had negative stoned thoughts. On the edible they’re all positive thoughts, which is a good note to stick with the edible. We left very happy, but the show proved that we as a culture have become happily immune to the fact that we are all cheering for fake Michael Jacksons and ABBA avatars. Are we becoming a “take what we can get” culture? But the versions are so good who can argue.
