Chapter Twenty Two
At Polar Paradise
We have Raamjet once more on the line.
She reveals that she’ s semi-divine.
She describes how the King
Did not feel Ammit’s sting
But he’s caught by Anubis’ design.
The two cubs rocketed into the playroom with Mlle Woof bringing up the rear. “Are we going to Egypt, Poppa? Are we?”
“We haven’t decided yet. I have to talk with Raamjet right away. Do you think you can reach her?”
“Did Uncle Condo fix it up so we can reach her from anywhere?”
“He did, but she needs to know how to reach us. Right now, I want you to use the play station and call her.”
With an explosion of pushing and shoving, Arabella got to her console first and started loading up the Egyptian Tomb game. McTavish ran over to his keyboard and started up his copy. There would be wall-to-wall Raamjet.
After the opening “splash” screens flashed on, ominous Egyptian background music and a menu of options followed. Keys clicked, mice flew around the pads and there they were in the depths of an ancient tomb. McTavish shouted at the console microphone. “Uraeus! Raamjet! It’s us! Bella and Tavi! Poppa needs to talk to you right now. Come out, come out wherever you are!”
In the distant murk, shining red lights slowly emerged. The glow of the snake’s eyes increased in intensity and suddenly a reptilian face filled the screen. “Ah, my young ursine friends. Welcome! And welcome to you, Seeker of Justice. I see your noble spouse is with you as well as the members of your court. Greetings to all! What is the urgent matter we must discuss? Has the despicable Duck begun his infamous expedition?”
“Not yet but we believe it will be very soon.” Said the Bear “We have sent three of our most capable agents to Cairo where they will launch a search for him. We believe he has his headquarters on a small island in the Red Sea. We need to get more clarification from you about how King Tsk made his journey to the Underworld.”
The Uraeus replied. “The Duat or what you call the Underworld is the realm of the dead. The Book of the Dead is a guide to the deceased to enable them to make their passage safely. There are many dangers on the route and not all spirits survive. They suffer a second death. The Ka or spirit of King Tsk VI did not complete the journey. It lies in a suspended state, neither destroyed nor elevated. He has escaped for the moment the vengeance of Ammit, the Devourer but his heart has been found out of balance by the goddess Maat, embodiment of justice and truth. Anubis has chosen to isolate his spirit rather than destroy it.”
“In the case of the Pharaoh, his Book of the Dead is a “coffin text” inscribed on the surfaces of his sarcophagus. Therein lies my burden. I must protect the mummy’s case from being accessed and defiled.
