Chapter Ten
A quaint avenue dusted with leftover snow around the edges was all that was left of last nightâs festivities was. Overhead, the sky was clear and pale blue. It was a bustling Saturday afternoon and Warren Avenue was definitely awake.
Do not fall in love. Do not fall in love. Do not fall in love.
Faith parked her truck across the street from Roseâs. Last night with Grant had been more enjoyable than anything sheâd done in a long time. Too much fun, in fact. Especially if Lawrence offered her the job in New York. The idea of working on Broadway again was something worth considering. The opportunity to become a wardrobe supervisor didnât come up every day. If she got the job, it could open up all kinds of possibilities.
Studying the front of the bakery, she stayed where she was for the longest time. Roseâs was closed. It closed at three every day, except Sunday when they closed for the whole day. Through the large windows, she watched Grant disappear into the kitchen area.
He was dressed in his chefâs clothes, which inexplicably made her senses perk up. But then, anything the man wore made her take notice. Last night in his vintage-style outfit, he was so dang attractive.
When he reemerged from the kitchen, she grabbed her purse and climbed out of the truck. Quickly crossing the street, she waved to alert him she was here.
He met her at the door. âYou made it. Ready to have some fun?â
Oh yeah. Totally. âThereâs no way I would miss learning how to make your famous Christmas fritters.â
âTheyâre not famous yet.â He helped her with her coat and hung it on the coat tree by the door.
âThey will be,â she reassured him firmly.
He hung back, letting her go first. âMattâs already here.â
âMatt? How come?â
âHeâs filming some extra footage to add to the video. Weâre handing it off to my editor on Wednesday. Do you want to see the final version before we send it?â
âAre you kidding? Yes.â Wednesday was sooner than sheâd thought was possible when they originally talked about making a YouTube video.
They entered the kitchen. As promised, Grant had two workstations set up. The ingredients were already laid out. Matt was waiting with his camera in hand.
Faith put on an apron. âSo, what happens after you turn in the video?â
âFirst, Rachel has to be impressed.â Grant pulled a recipe card from his jacket pocket and placed it by her mixing bowl.
âHow could she not be?â Picking up the card, she waved it at Grant. âIs this your secret recipe?â
He grinned. âMaybe.â
âYou could assure Rachelâs undivided attention by sending a sample of your Christmas fritters with the video. After eating them, she would have to say yes to your cookbook.â
âYouâre cute, you know that?â He grinned crookedly. âThatâs a great idea.â
Cute as in . . . what? Was Grant flirting with her?
Nah. Even if he was, it didnât mean anything.
âAll right. Letâs get started.â He turned on Christmas music and nodded at Matt, who began filming.
