Chapter Eleven

Damien

I could inhale her sweet, arousing scent from the passenger seat beside me. The scent of her fear, mixed with the scent of her vanilla fragrance set my bloodstream ablaze.

It’d been six years, and she hadn’t changed one bit. She was still the most beautiful woman I’d ever come across, and she still had that fierceness to her that I loved so much.

So fucking sexy!

She dared to steal a glance at me, her hazel eyes twinkling as gorgeous as ever. A lump formed around my heart, realization punching me in the guts. I’d missed her so fucking much.

Tearing her eyes off me, she started to fix something invisible on the hem of her skirt.

“What happened to my car?” she asked with a voice low enough to pass as a mere whisper.

“Fyodor will bring it over.”

She shot a glance at me. “Fyodor?”

“You haven’t met him.” She hadn’t met anyone in my world, and that was going to change soon. I meant it when I said I wasn’t going to let her go.

Silence strung in the air for seconds.

“Where are you taking me, and what do you plan to do with me?” She tried to sound confident, but the crack in her voice revealed that she was scared. Afraid of me, as if I was some sort of beast.

“Relax, I’m not going to hurt you.”

“I know.” She breathed. “I don’t care if you hurt me if you have to, I just…” she trailed off, sinking into her seat and looking at the window.

This was odd. She wasn’t afraid of getting hurt or dying, she was anxious about something else.

I could sense that she was hiding something.

“Will you ever let me go?”

“Is there a reason I have to?”

She stared down at her hands, ignoring my question. I took that as a yes. Something was on her mind; something was worrying her.

Rage coursed through my mind, burning through me like an erupting volcano as I wondered who it was that consumed her thoughts this way. Was it another man?

I glanced at her fingers, there was no ring, so she wasn’t married or engaged which came as a relief, not that it would’ve stopped me from claiming her. But it saved me the hassle of having to slither someone’s throat.

Fuck, it had to be another guy! Rosanne didn’t have a family, and I was certain it wasn’t any of her friends. Fyodor confirmed that she hadn’t been in contact with any of her friends since she moved away.

I wanted to know who it was, and I wanted to break him. Rosanne was mine now, and whoever it was would soon learn that I wasn’t very good at sharing what was mine. Her voice dragged me back to the present.

“Are you going to keep me hostage?” She didn’t let me answer. “I must warn you I have a lot of friends in the NYPD. It won’t take long before people notice I’m missing, and when they do, they’ll be coming for you.”

I smiled at her naivety.
