Chapter Eighteen

Tiberius

“He says it’s a great privilege to meet one of my young ones,” Harvey said with a smile.

“I have so many questions, Harvey. Chester,” Veronica gushed, not sure where to look.

“Well, maybe you should meet Tiberius first,” Harvey replied calmly.

“You bought more than one new friend home?”

“Watch,” Harvey said.

Chester’s scales shrunk and turned to skin leaving Tiberius standing in his place. Mrs. Jones followed by at least twenty villagers rounded the corner as the dragon disappeared from sight, but the glint in her eyes told Tiberius she had seen. Thankful to the gods that the villagers had not, confusion surrounded them as they approached.

Tiberius’s eyes smoldered at the sight, a slight smirk on his face. The pitchforks and flaming torches just looked ridiculous with no monster to be seen. “I demand ya turn back inta a dragon this instant,” Mrs. Jones raged as she rushed forward, her signature jabby finger waving in Tiberius’s face.

“Sorry, Ma’am, but what dragon?” Tiberius asked smoothly.

“There… there… was a dragon, green and gold, I saw it! Veronica tell them… tell them what ya saw,” she demanded.

Veronica looked between Tiberius and Harvey for a moment and when her eyes landed on the group of irate villagers, a small smile appeared on her lips. “I never saw a dragon, Ma’am. Tiberius and Harvey arrived a few moments ago, on foot.”

The old woman stared at her for a full minute, looking very much like she wanted to throttle her where she stood. “But I saw, with ma own two eyes,” she said, turning to look at the group behind her.

The crowd rumbled uncomfortably, eyeing her up and muttering about yet another wild story. “I swear it! It flew right over me head, and he were… that sorry excuse for a music teacher - on its back.”

“Mrs. Jones, no need for insults, is it possible the sun was casting shadows perhaps?” Tiberius asked easily.

“I know what I saw. I’ll be watching ya… All of ya,” she remarked casting her disapproving eyes over Veronica’s delicate frame.

Veronica bowed politely to Mrs. Jones, before turning to Harvey. “Shall we go inside? I think I should like some tea.”

Without a second look at the assembled angry mob, who at last check were looking quite embarrassed, Tiberius followed Harvey and Veronica inside. As soon as the door was closed behind them, Veronica released a huge, long breath and slumped onto the couch.

Harvey was laughing hysterically, “did you see her face!”

“Thank you, young one,” Tiberius said bowing to Veronica.

“So, who are you, and why have you stolen my music teacher?” She demanded brusquely.

“I am Tiberius Asterial from the Ravynbright Clan.”

“What a mouthful,” she laughed. “I’ll just stick to Tiberius, if that’s okay?”

Tiberius nodded, a wide grin spreading across his face. “Usually, I would apologize for stealing people, but this time I’m afraid I can’t find a single ounce of remorse within me.”

“Hmmm,” Veronica murmured. “He looks happy enough, but you better look after him.”

“I promise I will, with everything that I am, young one.”

“Harvey is a special man, not just my teacher.
