ILLUSTRATIVE NESTING

Illustrative nesting is the careful consideration of placement and spacing when illustrating from a somewhat imaginary bird’s-eye view that leads the viewer from one object to another, creating a pleasing cohesive unit.

In the example, there’s consistent white space between the objects (for the most part—asymmetry comes in all shapes and forms) and the group of objects as a whole on my paper. Notice that the objects vary in size, color and direction as well.
