GETTING INTO AGREEMENT WITH HEAVEN

I had a 24/7 relationship with Papa that was much more powerful than the time I spent in any church. Learning how to walk in these new faith shoes taught me more than I had even realized at the time. It gave me courage to do things I never would have done on my own. It brought the possibilities that I believed into life. But more than anything, it reminded me that I was created beautifully, powerfully, uniquely, differently, and specifically for a purpose. And all of heaven was cheering me on.

Grace never stops. The Bible teaches that where sin abounds, grace abounds even more. This doesn’t mean we won’t experience ramifications, but it means that Papa’s love will always be true, will be there in our despair, will love us in our sin, and will never, ever run out, especially when we need it the most. So many people think God controls everything. That if good things happen, He did them. If bad things happen, He caused them. If He is so powerful, we should never suffer or struggle. This is ridiculous because it removes from the whole equation one very important aspect—free will. We are not puppets, wandering through the universe, subject to whatever the Great Owner of the Planet feels like doing. We were given power that nothing else on this planet possesses—free will. Animals don’t have free will. Plants don’t have free will. The sun doesn’t get to rise whenever it feels like it, and the waves in the sea can’t decide at any given moment when they’ll let their tide rise and fall. No, all of these other things were set into motion and function in a way that is responding to everything around it. Environment is everything to all aspects of the planet. It is for us too, but we have a power that nothing else does. We get to choose. It’s these choices—our choices, the choices of those who have gone before us and those who will follow after us—that are setting into motion many aspects of our existence.

Here’s the big paradigm shift: we have both free will and the grace of God. We have a choice and we also receive what we didn’t earn. We get what we didn’t deserve. Papa is always for us and never against us, but life itself can at times kick us in the buttocks in a way that can throw us into a tailspin if we’re not careful! This is why it’s so critically important to know TRUTH. To find, and understand, and live in our truth.

As the pastor spoke of God’s great disappointment in us and His mercy in not wiping us off the face of the planet, I felt sick. I felt violated. How could a powerful man of God speak such untruth, and why was he working so hard to make everyone in the congregation afraid of Papa? He has never, ever made me feel afraid of Him. I honor Him.
