After they arrived back at the Winthrop house, Daniel went to water the horses, while Winthrop walked Peri to the house.

“I must say I’m impressed by the level of your training in natural philosophy, Mistress Fuller.”

“I have been blessed with good teachers and many excellent books,” Peri replied. She hoped she had correctly remembered her high school physics and chemistry.

“It seems that Daniel grasped everything you said much faster than I was able. The Lord has given him quite a gift.”

Peri had noticed the same, although Winthrop was obviously extremely intelligent.

Winthrop continued. “We need to encourage him to go to London. There’s no telling what discoveries the Lord may grant him if he’s given the best resources and the opportunity to collaborate with the likes of Boyle. A mind like his only comes along once in a generation. And to think that God in His Providence has given such a gift to an Indian. We may create a New Jerusalem here yet.”

“May the Lord come quickly,” Peri said. She felt proud to know Daniel. Perhaps she could go with Daniel to London to meet with Boyle, and they could discover a way to send her home. But Reverend Mayhew had been lost at sea on such a voyage. Peri needed to find a private place to view the picture of the Place on the Wayside plaque on her cell phone. She had to know what year Mayhew drowned. She hoped it was not 1657.
