My physical body might have been down at the pottery shop, but my brain was upstairs with Lark. I tried not to message her phone too much since I knew she was sleeping, so I just told Mom what was going on and that I’d need to run upstairs when it was slow so I could check on her.

“I’m sure she’s fine,” Mom said. “If she’s really that sick with you checking on her so much, she should go to the doctor.”

“She’s not that sick,” I said. “I did the same thing when Joy was sick.”

Mom gave me a look. Why was she being so perceptive today? I didn’t like it.

I also sent Layne a message that Lark was sick and that she should tell Honor not to worry and that I had it taken care of.

Liam told me she’d gone home early yesterday, poor thing. Let me know if you need anything. I can whip you up some soup today. I’ve got the time she sent.

That would probably be better for Lark than the stuff in a can.

She still hadn’t proposed to Honor, but she was getting closer to figuring out her plans. I still thought simple would be better, but Layne was determined to make it big.
