PAYING FOR READINGS

Before you rush to John Edward’s website to schedule a reading, however, consider the price: $750.

There are plenty of psychics and mediums who are just as accurate as Edward, but lack his media status, so they can’t charge that kind of money for a reading—at least, not if they hope to make a living. Keep in mind that a higher fee for a reading doesn’t necessarily guarantee a more satisfying or accurate result. For most mediums, a reading should cost between $1–$2 a minute.

One of the best readings we ever had was with a West Virginia psychic, Millie Gemondo, who at that time charged $35 a reading. We also paid $150 for a reading from a French-Canadian psychic who was accurate, but lacked social skills—she didn’t have a clue how to present devastating information in a humane manner.

However, psychics and mediums, like anyone else who performs a service, deserve compensation. It’s up to you how much that service is worth. So if you believe that money equals value, then by all means lay out $750 for a reading from John Edward, Sylvia Browne, James Van Praagh, or any other media figure. But if you run into a psychic medium on a flight, do not ask how your Aunt Bertha is doing on the other side, okay?
